My Why for coaching

Are you wondering what a coach is?

I know I had NO IDEA prior to 2020.

I thought a coach was a sports coach, maybe a personal trainer could be considered a coach.

And a life coach…I’m not gonna lie, I used to roll my eyes at this title.

I thought “Who needs a coach for life?” as an ignorant 25 year old.

Of course, now that I’ve entered many evolutions in my life as a

🌟 A female teen and athlete

🌟 A former collegiate athlete

🌟 An employee

🌟 Prenatal/Postpartum mom of 1 then 2

🌟 A professional student and mom

🌟 A working mom

🌟 A part time working mom

🌟 Moving homes 5 times in 12 years in 3 states

🌟 A director of a clinic

🌟 An entrepreneur

🌟 And now as I enter perimenopause

I can see how all of these life evolutions caused increased acute and then chronic stress.

I could’ve been guided and given much more ease if I had someone supporting me through these hormonal and stressful life transitions.

I found coaching at 39 years old as I became an entrepreneur and I haven’t looked back. This has been a must for me in my 40’s.

Coaches supported me to explore HEALTHY strategies to manage my stress that would work for each season of life.

Instead of getting to the absolute breaking point of burnout which I had done many times before, which affected my

👉🏻 musculoskeletal system - with multiple aches and pains that could’ve been easily addressed

👉🏻 Endocrine system and developing Insulin Resistance induced PCOS

👉🏻 Cardiovascular system with high blood pressure

👉🏻 Metabolic system with excessive weight gain.

When I decided to finally receive support for my chronic stress and improve my health with both medical and holistic methods.

I now have greater confidence in my body and it’s capabilities, I appreciate all the incredible work my body has done and I now nurture and care for this vessel daily. I still fall off the wagon and go towards work, but I have a coach on my side to hold me to my desires as I continue to practice a new way of life that honors recovery, rest and fun.

HERE’S WHAT IS GOING ON PHYSIOLOGICALLY ( Don’t Worry I break this down 😁)

AND HOW I SUPPORT YOU TO SUPPORT THIS SYSTEM

Our body uses the Hypothalmus-Pituitary-Adrenal axis to respond to both acute and chronic stress.

(Read more about the HPA axis here from the Cleveland Clinic)

Stress is stress to the body, whether we’re running from a lion, getting that project done for work or doing a workout. Stress is stress and our body responds with cortisol release, which causes an increase in- heart rate, rapid breathing & blood pressure. (AKA, you are in a state of Fight or Flight!). Good news if you’re training for that event to push you in that last quarter of the game or the last mile of the marathon.

NO WORRIES when that is ACUTE stress, maybe a few hours.

The issue is when our HPA axis rarely rests due to CHRONIC STRESS

50% of Americans have poor stress “management” (or recovery) strategies.

Leading our HPA axis to physiologically responds to our stress.

The issue is, when we experience CHRONIC STRESS

The HPA axis is CONTINUOUSLY working

Which increases cortisol ➡️ increasing blood pressure ➡️ shallow breathing ➡️ poor sleep ➡️ to craving comfort foods/caffeine and alcohol ➡️ more weight gain ➡️ insulin resistance ➡️ soreness to joints from weight gain and insulin resistance.

Eventually leading the chronic stressed working woman to the dreaded all or nothing movement in which many injure themselves from going to hard with the only workout they know OR  lack of movement due to already struggling with pain.

Both are true that many wonder working women struggle from not knowing how to move in the evolved stressed body that they now have.

If you can relate, you are not alone!

It makes sense if you struggle with chronic stress, it makes sense you take the all or nothing approach and haven’t been able to stick with anything long enough.

For it can feel like another to-do list task (and who has time for that?)

OR it may be stressful simply trying to plan to do something different and not having any idea how your body will respond.
