Roll out your feet and reduce your stress

April is Stress Awareness Month
Here's an invitation to bring AWARENESS to your stress.

One of my favorite techniques to help reduce pain, is actually a technique to reduce stress too.

So get out your ball and let’s do what Ludacris says and ROLL OUT!

More specifically your feet!

This helps to reduce stress because, it address our plantar fascia, a very thick piece of fascia.

Our fascia (aka connective tissue) connects/covers everything inside of our body. Including, organs, blood vessels, nerves and muscles.  Our fascia holds 250 million nerve endings (25% more than our skin!).

This makes fascia our largest sensory organ.  Here is a very simplified explanation of fascia.

Fascia, being a sensory organ, communicates with our brain about what it senses inside our body as well as outside in the world we are perceiving. Our brain then decides what emotion/belief it needs to put with that sensation that our fascia is sensing. Whether it is fear, joy, grief, happiness, peace, sadness, alert, etc.  It is apart of our “gut” response.

So here’s the deal.  By addressing a thick part of your fascia, like the bottom of your feet, you are giving feedback to your brain that it is safe and you are sensing something like delight, pleasure and/or relax.

I hope you enjoy rolling out your feet this week! You’re doing more than 1 thing when you do it.  Keep caring for yourself as you get out and grow this spring season.

xo, Lisa
