Stress Can Be Healthy
Huddle Up Team - This is a TED (Lasso) talk!
STICK with me
This is long WINDed π
I love how nature teaches us lessons everyday
In 2012, scientists studied the effects of putting plants in an optimal indoor environment
Initially they saw how much faster trees grew inside vs. outside π²
But the indoor trees π³ stopped maturing and instead drooped over π§
They found trees were missing a primary element,
Wind π¨
π³ Trees need the stress of wind to build deeper roots and stronger bark
Both roots and bark allow trees to fully mature and last decades

And itβs the same for humans
Without stress we can grow to a certain point,

side note and plug for your bonesβ¦
Our Bones Need Physical Stress (in many directions) so we can Keep Bending without breaking.
Back to the blogβ¦
π¨We need stress to keep moving and standing tall in our family and community.
The problem is our stress is wildly out of control - making it really hard to find time to put your physical needs on the list.
And that goes for ME too!
β A few years ago, I had so much stress, from not putting my body on the list
I couldnβt tolerate standing or sitting in wind. The stress of wind was too much on my nervous system and totally wore me out.
And I thought I was managing my stressβ¦by ignoring it even existedπ (DO NOT RECOMMEND 1 out of 5 stars for ignoring!)
Which meant
πI did embarrassing things to βmanageβ my βnon-exsistentβ stress like
Getting angry when things were not as I pictured
and each time Iβd come home to a house that wasnβt tidy
I was frustrated no one else saw the mess but me π‘
But I would rarely yell
Usually
Iβd swallow my anger and move on
That anger and ignoring I was burnt out in traditional healthcare system, that I deeply thought I loved, and stressed from being a working mom, gave me
π© shooting pain into my hip, low back and searing through my mid back.
βSwallowingβ the stress is how I managed it.
πΆNever giving it a voice or awareness
Slowly eating away at me for π+ years.
To the point I thought I had to live with the pain.
And pain turned me into a lava monster π
Once I started to slow down, breathe and become an observer of these thoughts keeping me stuck in stress (pain) mode I turned a corner and had so much more space in my life.
Which reduced pain and progressed me back to doing the physical activities that bring me so much joy!
Like sitting and standing outside playing with my kids and watching them compete in sport.
The 2οΈβ£ things I started with to create my own stress management plan was
1οΈβ£ Breath-work with mindset
2οΈβ£ lovingly moving my body
So team - I invite you to check in on your stress - give it voice and simply admit that it exists.
